Dr. Arenas is Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. He earned his medical degree at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, and completed his internal medicine residency in Framingham, Massachusetts. Dr. Arenas completed a cardiology fellowship with the Columbia University Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

Dr. Arenas holds a Doctoral degree in cardiovascular physiology from the University of Alberta and was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Canadian Institutes of Health and Research at the University of Montreal, where he conducted studies of genetics and blood pressure regulation.

Dr. Arenas joined the Division of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center where he has participated in the training of numerous Cardiology Fellows. He has received research grants and scholarships to investigate the mechanisms of vascular and cardiac dysfunction with aging, and is co-author of several publications in the field of risk factors for cardiac and vascular disease. Dr. Arenas recently moved to Salem Health Cardiology.
